History
Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors of Detroit (PMC Detroit)
Founded as the Plumbing and Heating Industry of Detroit (PHI) Trust Fund in 1956,
representing
the Metropolitan Detroit Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association
(Detroit MCA) and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Southeastern Michigan
(Detroit PHCC), we’ve been
around for 50 years. In January of 2001, we changed our
association name to Plumbing and
Mechanical Contractors of Detroit (PMC Detroit) to better
reflect our contractor membership and
the scope of work they do.
Association of Service and Mechanical Contractors of Southeastern Michigan (ASAM)
ASAM history is currently being prepared.
Mechanical Contractors Association of Detroit (MCA Detroit)
In 2005, ASAM and PMC Detroit joined to form a new non-profit corporation, the Mechanical
Contractors Association of Detroit, with a new industry fund, the MCA Detroit Industry
Promotion
Fund.
Creating MCA Detroit has the advantage of providing for a single association that can
henceforth negotiate with Pipefitters Local 636 and Plumbers Local 98 on behalf of all
mechanical
contractors whether they were formerly members of ASAM or PMC (one Local
636 contract
instead of two). Economies of scale have proven beneficial for such matters
as training,
education, safety, industry relations and industry promotion. A single, larger,
voice speaks for
members in the business and public arenas.
